On my drive to mammoth this past weekend, I hit a bird. Considering the bird has wings and a very large 3d space to fly in, I blame the bird though. Didn’t damage anything but was a bit frightening. Also here is frame by frame:

American regulations require all vehicle operators involved in bird strikes to report the event:

One time I was driving to work and three or four geese took off from the side of the road when I was about five feet away. All of them cleared the car except one, who smacked into my A pillar, turning my passenger mirror in on its pivot and breaking its neck in the process.

Birds are dumb.

Bird:

Kinja'd!!!

I almost named our Forester ‘Thumper’ - very first drive out of town a duck tried to buzz the tower and bounced off the window.. I thought for sure it was going to leave a mark but it just glanced off..

When we leave for home from my inlaws farm it’s usually 5am, 35km of gravel quarter-roads back to pavement mean we usually get a bird hit or two..

I thought for sure it damaged something with that thud. But birds are light I suppose. Since they have to do that whole flying thing

My dad once hit a robin and it got stuck in the car’s grill. He pulled into the police station, grabbed a stick, and pried it out. He then went into the police station. When he got to the front desk, the lady said “I’ve been watching the cameras - what in the world were you doing out there?”. My dad said “there was a robin stuck in my grill.” The woman put that aside and asked why my dad was there. He said: “I wanted to report that I hit a dog.”

She looked at him, laughed, and said: “Well aren’t you just an every day animal lover!”

That’s a solid strike. I feel confident saying the bird lost.

I’ve had two over the years that left a mess after really hard strikes.  Immediate trips to the nearest car wash were in order.

It’s voluntary. Not required

How do you like that Aukey DR02 camera?

I like how simple it is. Just plug it in and it records, unplug and it stops. No battery involved at all so it’s reliable in the extreme California sun. I like the size of it, it’s inconspicuous enough to not be a high theft hazard either. I have trouble with my 12v outlet so I've thought about hard wiring it with a kill switch. But a better charger that securely plugs in could work too. Overall decent video quality. Night time isn't the best but I can still read license plates that are within my headlights so it's acceptable. And for the price well under $100 it's good enough that I have it in both cars. They have a system with rear view but it seemed overly complicated to me. I'd rather just hook up two full ones some day.
